Thought I'd share the link - interesting take on 'saving' this property but suspect only way to go and the plans at least seem to save the intergrity of the place. Its just down the road from my parents place, and they used to go there from time to time when it was a restaurant. Apparently it was run by a couple of men, with a very cross and rude waiter, who used to serve people whilst a parrot sat on his shoulder! Health and safety would love it! Allegedly a big question mark hovers over the fire......... Never realised what a historically important place it was though.....

That slow loading picture at the top is actually a 6Mpixel image, 3MB in size. If you right click and select view image in Firefox* then you can see the larger version which shows some of the structural problems it has. Note to all - when designing a website do not use a large picture directly to make a small picture on your website. Resize the picture first as in this case every viewer has to download 100x more data than they need to.

It all loaded OK for me.

Good news for the building though, especially now that Heritage Lottery funding is becoming in increasingly short supply as cash is diverted to the bl**dy Olympics, many worthy applicants got nowt in this year's round.

Landmark will do a great job, it will open on occasions for public viewing, and a holiday let will ensure it's all done with sensitivity and lesser impact than many another re-use.

Strictly in the interests of balance, and in case some non-techie users don't know what MdB is on about, Firefox is an internet browser that looks and behaves very much like Internet Explorer. But, as is invariably the case with software, vehement arguments can break out over which of the two is best.

Actually, the best one is the one you like.

Based on my limited experience of Landmark Trust properties, I quite agree. The place is safe in their hands.
