Georgian Roof

Hi, we are looking to buy a Georgian property. The roof is a bit of a mystery and does not seem typical of this period, as it has a gable at one end but is hipped at the other also the pitch is very high, there are two rooms it the roof space. Could the rooms be original and possibly the reason for the roof being the way it is?

It doesn't look Georgian to me. Maybe it's been altered at some time?

Our house of 1620 began with a double-hip, then one end was unhipped in the 1800s when a chimney was built on. I found this from a look in the roof - is there any crawl space in this house where you could see the timbers?

That wood frame looks much older than Georgian to me. Could it be an earlier building that was re-faced in the Georgian era. Or has someone re-used the beams from something earlier just for fun.

From those photos (and having then been able by a process of deduction to work out which property it is and have a look on streetview etc) I don't believe it's a Georgian front at all - it's a late Victorian or Edwardian refronting, in a loosely Georgian style, of a much earlier property which may be the surviving end of a longer row. The relatively modern front has also misled the listing inspectors who haven't realised that it has a much earlier core (it's not listed).
