Garden: painting the cement patio

Maybe a tad off topic ...

We've considered laying tiles on top of the cement patio at the back of an 1890 cottage - as is out of keeping with the house.

An alternative is to paint the cement a suitable colour instead of tiles. Has anyone experience / opinions on this?

No matter what paint you use it partially wears off and looks terrible. And it looks like painted cement to start with anyway. Some tricks work and some dont.

Painting cement, in your case , would be similar to jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Just make sure it is safe to walk on it for the moment and invest as you can on some proper brick paviours.

B&Q used to sell a Sandtex product, "Wall & Patio Paint" I think it was called - it was specifically designed for painting patio slabs, we discontinued it as it sold so badly.

The advice here is good - no matter what you put on it will wear off the high spots and look dreadful after 2 - 3 years at best.

I have actually used santex masionary paint on lots of slabs on two houses now in the garden, mainly just to brighten them up. They have been rained on, scrubbed, bleached, and to be honest, ive never seen an ounce of wear on the paint surface, but they do look obviously painted.

Santex is good tho, I used the smoothe masionary paint.

thought that said smoothie, I was picturing lime & strawberries in the blender. Lime & pigs blood would be closer.
