I am in the process of planning a new garage. Does the forum have any experience with Oak framed "car barns" ? either pro's or con's would be greatfully recieved.
At the moment I have 2 choices of traditional materials and 1 of modern - block and cover elevations with local stone, Brick or oak post and weather board.
as background I have an existing 1950's single bay garage built out of brick with asbestos roof - the plan would be to demolish this to make way for a 3 bay garage. I will need space for a workshop area
localy the building design is a mixture of modern infill and older rublestone cottages in a semi rural area . My own house is an edwardian detached, dressed stone and red brick one of about 6 in the area. There is no set precedent in the area for build style, within 100m garages have been bult out of corragated iron (wriggly tin), block and render, brick, and prefab concrete.
any thoughts suggestions gratefully recieved
