Hi,
I would like to install a system of shelving in the garage of an 18C farmhouse. It was the kitchen until the 60's before someone converted it - it might have fit a Mini back then but no car fits now.
The shelving is the type where you hang garden tools, ladders etc. on movable hooks that slide into rows of panels attached to the wall.
I have two walls to choose from. My first choice is an exterior wall - lime plastered In good condition had it repaired last year) onto the original 18C bricks. There are are no laths. Builder friend confident he can nail to the wall without any.
A) would it be a mistake to try to nail the panels directly to the wall?
B) should he attach laths and nail to them?
C) is it just a bad idea altogether - because the weight of the panels when everything is loaded will pull the lime plaster off?
The second choice is an interior wall made of 60's bricks that was part of the earlier conversion. An easier proposition but it is only half the length of the outside wall which is why I would like to use the exterior one if it is feasible.
Appreciate your comments/advice, thanks.
