Gap between facia rafter and stone wall

Thinking maybe should fill the gap betwwen the gable rafter and the stone wall or should just leave it. If I fill was thinking of just using lime mortar I do have some burnt sand which I could use. Lime would be easier but would it stay in place against the timber?

I would leave it open as to do otherwise may limit natural air-flow around the roof timbers which could perhaps induce rot.

Well this was the end of the house I thought was ok. Getting there 9 hours later.
