Being new to the forum I am sure somewhere on the forum this topic may have been discussed but I need some advice/assistance.
The property I am about to commence refurbishement of is a Stone built cottage built in 1785 (county Durham).
The gable end is a retaining wall for the land next to it (forming a drive access to the next property up the slope. The wall is showing evidence of damp but not excessive. However the property I have has been empty for some three years and therefore the heating has not been on nor is it servicable (its beyond that!).
Apart from assisting the drying out process (difficult with winter approaching), what is the best solution for treating - replastering, penetrating damp prevention available? I know that CHemical DPC is not a good idea but is lime plaster the solution. I have rising damp too in some of the internal walls so intend to hack of much of the plaster anyway as its in poor condition.
Any help would be very much apprecitaed.
