Gable fascias etc

Hi,

Am replacing the gable fascias etc with new timber and noticed that the plaster which may or may not have originally been there is non existant, is it ok to add a breathable membrane under the gable end overhang of the roof. the rest of the roof is lath and plaster and in pretty good condition.

Or should I just leave it as it seems any water ingress is just hitting the thick walls and drying.

Could you share some photos please? It's not clear if you are talking about the internal or external face of the gable wall.

Cheers will share some pics when the timber os off, but it is the external part of the roof which overhangs the gable which has no plaster..

Post any photos you can please but I would not worry about adding a breathable membrane. The un-coated section of the wall was/is protected by the roof and fascia overhanging the gable and air movement around it will allow any driven rain to evaporate quite quickly. In fact adding a membrane may cause problems.
