Front Door

OK, a little picture for you.

This is our new front door, fitted last year, and painted to a finish in time for winter.



It is a fair sized beast, 110cm wide x 260cm to the top of the fanlight, and replaced the lovely 1970's aluminium and glass with side panel.

It is hardwood, with encapsulated glass. The company say it should last 100 years if properly maintained. That should outlive me!

Next job is to find a nice lantern for the porch.

Where did you get it?
I could do with something similar to replace my utterly horrible placcy front thing ( I hesitate to call it a door, I hate it so much)
Sadly funds do not allow me to do much about it at the moment, but one day....

Definately a thing of beauty. Front door is very important, the face of the house, must be a joy to come home to. Hope you find the lantern you are looking for, they occasionally turn up at auction, but think relatively easy to find new as well.

That's a lovely front door, the colour is gorgeous and it would look very smart on my house, instead of the placcy affair (complete with plastic porch and leaf patterned frosted glass) that we have now.

I will have a look at the Jim Lawrence Lanterns with Mrs M - thanks for the name Joce.

TomW - it came from a company call "The Original Big Old Doors" in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire. I found them on Google, and they manufacture bespoke doors, frames, manage the glazing and also the fitting of the door. Very pleased with the service. (They also provided all the door furniture.) We had a tour around the workshop before signing up and it was a traditional family business, just what we were looking for.

I can't remember the actual colours, but I know that the frame is cream rather than pure brilliant white, as it gives a much softer look, rather than the starkness of white. It is all a matt finish, rather than gloss.
