Front Door paint colour

Anyone care to hazzard a guess as to what colour the front door is to Cranford's 'Hanbury Court'--- it's just what I am looking for, a black green. It looks deeper than F & BTrust Green. It must be a listed building, so the paint could be lead based. I always think that it gives an extra depth of colour.

West Wycombe Park (owned by The National Trust) is used for the exterior of Hanbury Court. You could try dropping them a line.

Funny you should ask that! I wondered the same as I watched. It had a beautiful depth and sheen, and I have spent time today wondering if I have the strength to apply for LBC to change our black front door. Hmmmm.

You don't need LBC to change the colour of your front door (assuming it's already painted).

Joss - surely you'll have two front doors, like 10 Downing Street, won't you? So one can always be in the workshop, being repainted.

So why not have two different colours?

That'll confuse the postman.

The Dutch & Danes used to use dark green on their doors.
Grachtengroen (canal green) and the related Herensgrachtgroen (the Herensgracht being one of the inner city canals in Amsterdam that had merchants houses along it) might be near to what you seek. They are both almost black-green but Herensgrachtgroen has a blue-ish sheen to it.

The paint is shown at its most impressive when the door has a large plain panel on it - usually a vertical oval - where a mirror finish really displays the nuances of the colour.

Dulux :?: :lol: That's what I thought you meant! However, I shall investigate that shade from that company, as well follow up the other suggestions. I am familiar with the carriage green etc from the F & B and I'm pretty sure its not that one.

Well Penners, there is a front door and a servants entrance at the side in the shape of a B&Q garden gate so yes I could go for 2 colours :lol:

have you got a photo or pic from the net? why not print it off and take it down to your local paint shop who will mix it for you? if they get it wrong you can have them alter it to suit.
i usually always get my paint mixed ,i find it much better then relying on any particular paint company's colour chart , although dulux i have found does have a very good range.

I especially like the advice in Tip 2781: To Economize Paint. Save all the skins, cleanings and scrapings of the paint pots, and wipings out of the brushes; these, boiled up in oil, make a cheap and durable coating for outside work.

no idea when it was written but they do talk about white lead a lot , basically white lead is lead carbonate produced by hanging a plate of lead over a vat of vinegar , the vat was then put in a dung heap for a couple of weeks so it would stay warm. the white carbonate that grew on the lead plate was ground down and used in paint, when did they stop putting lead in paint?

when i was reading up on coach painting (an old motor) the guys i chatted to about it told me how they suspended their brushes in whatever brush cleaner they were using on bits of wire suspended from the shelf above, this was so as not to alter the shape of the brush but also to prevent it from sitting in the build up of paint sediment at the bottom of the container , this paint was then collected and used again.
