When it comes to planning my activities, I am perhaps with Malcolm. I plan what to do when I come to do it.
So, here I am needing to fix the oak garage door frame I've partially made. At the bottom it will be fixed to the concrete slab, but I now realise the metal brackets I've had made are much to flimsy to take the twist of the heavy doors I'll be hanging on it.
The brackets are made of 5/16" plate, and looked quite substantial, but they're not.
There will be two pairs of doors, one oak one softwood, both blooming heavy. The frame is oak, as I said, 5 x 4" at one end and in the middle, 4 x 3" at the other end.
What I need, I think, is something like this (at River Cottage). A sort of T section where the base fixes to the slab.
Any idea what they're called, who makes them? I would go to my local blacksmith to get them made, but he's not well atm and likely to be out of action quite a while, so if they're available off the shelf so much the better.
