flue dilema

I have unblocked 2 fireplaces that had been filled in since 1953 and I have decided to line the chimney with a flue liner only because after weeks of repairing the lime pointing I still have little puffs of smoke appearing somewhere along the chimney breasts!
I have 1 wood fired Rayburn in the kitchen and a wood burning stove( which won't be used very often) in the lounge, can they be connected via a 'Y' shaped enamel flue pipe and share the same flue, or will they have to have 2 separate flue liners?
I have looked everywhere on the tinternet but can't find any answers

I would not recommend using a y junction in any flue.

Almost certainly, particularly if only one fire is lit, the flue gases will enter back down the unused or less used flue drawn in by the air used by the lit/brighter fire.

Section 1.25 of Part J of the 2000 Building Regs says "Flues designed to serve more than one appliance can meet the requirements by following guidance in BS 5410-1:1997 for oil and BS 5440-1:2000 for gas-fired systems. However, each solid fuel appliance should have its own flue."

I just grabbed my copy of the HETAS Training Manual I acquired when my ex business partner did the course, hence the probably not up to date version of Part J, but I can't imagine they've started allowing it since.

It's common practice over here (Ireland) to join flues together but it does cause problems especially with down drafts. I have a wood burner in the kitchen under an inglenook and the sitting room behind has an open fire which has it's own stone built flue, rising about five or six feet, and then joining the inglenook flue. It's been like that forever and a day but we luckily don't get a problem because the flue is so big that it can accommodate both fires.

Slightly off topic they don't build damp courses into chimney stacks here and I was the talk of the neighbourhood because I built two into the one stack...
