Flint walls

Our son is considering the purchase of a house which is about 150 years old and has external walls of flint napping. There is a localised damp problem to one of these walls, would I be correct in saying that the flints should be mortared into lime mortar? Thank you

A house of that age would of been built with lime mortar. A modern house with a flint panel and a backing wall plus a cavity and internal block wall would be built with cement mortar.

Thank you Stuart, I'm guessing at the moment that the damp patch is related to some lime mortar pointing, unless somebody in the past has used cement for repair work.
