Some wild colours there before Lou got to it! That black and pink tongue and groove- thank God you pulled it off! Are the yellow ochres and brick red yours though? Whose paints are they? Gorgeous. What a lovely house,and a huge project - vastly more structural work than I have to do here.

I love that screen, but it's also very interesting for me to see the salting slabs, I have them here and haven't seen them in anyone's house before. Here, they've had a bench built on top with a panelled back, to provide plenty of seating around a dining table - it seems a good idea. (though actually I might pull the bench off and have cupboards built on top of them)

Well done Lou, you've clearly worked incredibly hard and it's taking shape beautifully - I'm very impressed with your riddance of the render too.

Lovely house, and a beautiful setting. Does the stone lintel above the fireplace really go all the way to the ceiling or am I seeing it wrong? The thought of trying to lift that without a modern crane is not an attractive one!

Nope - it's huge and how they got it, and the two supporting stones, to such an inaccessible place is admirable. The stone is different to the red sandstone the house is built from and there's much speculation that they were 'liberated' from nearby Raglan Castle (well, nearby being about 8 miles away which was a lot further then, so to speak).

The ochre in our bolthole is more of a strong yellow really, and is Earthborn Humpty Dumpty but it was an ochre I had intended. I'm still quite happy with it as it faces north and the yellow warms it up. What might appear to be ochre in the other rooms is actually the hemp plaster before it's dried out completely and when I saw the photos I too thought it looked nice. Not quite as nice in reality however, and because the rooms' windows are all so low I think I'm going to need something much lighter.

The brick is Rose of Jericho Brick Red. It's actually dried to a soft peachy colour in some lights which is possibly going to be a tricky one to manage. Also it's not drying out well unless the windows and doors are all left open all day. I'll give it the Summer and if it's still not cooperating it'll be back to Earthborn, which does cover the multitude of surface sins an old house like this can throw at it.

How interesting - thanks Lou. I like all your choices, there's definitely a much nicer look to breathable paints, I love the variations of tone. Yellow is a great colour for a darkish room.

I think the Brick Red is fab, it's just one shade darker than my intended colour for the main drawing room. Give it plenty of time to dry, my green distemper from R of J showed a big damp patch when it first went up, we then removed the cement render on the exterior and it's just now disappearing ( 4 or 5 months later).
