So I've been re-slating a single storey roof with a rectangular bay over. The original bay had lead flashing nailed onto lath and was then rendered over. The rendering being rough cast, and not quite being ready to learn rough cast rendering, I attempted to put new lead over the top by cutting in to the render. That presented two problems; 1) the render was only about half an inch (if that) thick, so there wasn't much to insert the flashing into, and 2) the render promptly fell off the bay leaving me staring at the old lead and wondering what to do next.
Any ideas how to sort this? I have tried nailing the lead in place with enough of a lip that I can fold it back over the nails, however the fold looks pretty awful. I put a strip of wood behind it to bring it fairly flush with the render above. I am leaning towards just using the original approach and getting someone in to do the rendering, but perhaps there's a better solution out there. Worth asking anyway!
