Fixing into a dry stone wall?

Hi,

first post… and looking forward to explore the forum more as I tackle more projects with our new house.

i have an ‘exposed’ gas pipe running up the face of our boundary dry stone wall to track towards our house which Is on higher ground.
I’d like to enclose the pipe with a metal pipe protector as it’s at risk from being knocked by vehicles where it comes out the road (and up the face of the wall) .

any thoughts on what the best way to fix into a dry stone wall would be? The pipe protector comes with holes suggesting screws would be the norm, but I’m concerned that drilling into the dry stone wall would cause damage / unsettle stones

The bottom 18" looks like concrete, and if so, that's not a problem. Above that the stones are tightly bedded with a few layers of stones above the top of the pipe holding the rest down. I don't see why you couldn't drill into those stones for Plasplugs or similar. Beware of stainless steel screws in a galvanised cover - stainless eyebolts caused galvanised wire to rust on my raspberry frame and it turns out that's entirely to be expected due to where they are on the Galvanic Scale.

Seeing the picture of the lane I think I would be concerned that the 'protector', if one of the metal cage type, could actually increase the risk of damage to both the pipe and the wall. Appreciated its not a particularly narrow road but I'd guess you get a fair share of large vehicles and their trailers passing - its amazing how often we get a John Deere tractor trailer combo passing here that inadvertently trims our hedges as it passes.

May also be worthwhile considering exactly where your boundary line falls. Yours, I think, would be just beyond the external face of that wall and therefore that service pipe would not be your responsibility to protect. Also, any damage done to a passing vehicle by a 'protector' could become your liability perhaps.

One last observation. I now think its a parasol in your garden above but it looks for all the world like a rather sinister statue overlooking the road.

I saw this today and had to snap a photo, being a member here has definitely resulted in some odd things on the camera roll. It would match rather well with the creepy statue/ patio umbrella.
