I'm wanting to fit Suffolk latches to the ledge and brace doors in our new place, and could do with some advice as to their positioning, as logic and my observations seem at odds with each other.
If hinges are mounted on the ledge of a door which makes sense to me, then the boarded section, where the latch appears to be traditionally mounted, is set into the frame by the depth of the ledge, so the latch can't be fitted, as it would foul the frame before being parallel to the frame.
Some of the doors at our current place have blocks bringing the hinges away from the frame by the depth of the ledge, so the boards sit flush with the frame, a couple have the hinges mounted on the boarded section, and some with ledge mounted hinges and board mounted hinge just sit at an angle across the frame.
I hope this dilemma makes sense to someone, and is there a recognized way of ensuring that things line up?
Thanks,
- Pete
