Hi there, got a bit of a (silly?) question on a 1920s fireplace. Hoping there may be some experience from the good people on here!
I pried off the slightly naff mantelpiece and the pictures below show the result...
Now, I was planning to remove the fireback and those bricks that are protruding beyond the lath/plaster. However I had a moment of fear and doubt as it looks for all the world like the slightly sad "arch" is being held up by these bricks From one angle some, some of them appear to be sitting loose but from another, it appears that some are providing support for the arch holding up the wall
So the question is... do we think these bricks can be safely removed without the whole wall tumbling down or do I need to work out a solution if I want to remove them?
Any comments or suggestions welcome!
Cheers.
