Hello all. We moved into a Victorian terrace earlier this year, generally it's in good condition, (as far as we know so far!) because we are not massive DIYers and weren't looking for a huge project. But there are a few bits that are in need of some love, including this fireplace in the master bedroom.
It's not in use, and we don't need it to be, but sadly its showing it's age. Such a shame, these would have been beautiful tiles in their day. I would like to have a go at restoring it, and wondered if anyone had any advice and/or had done something similar themselves.
I'm thinking I would need to pry off the old tiles, make good the surface underneath, and retile. Seems simple enough (?!) but having never tiled anything before I'm sure there's lots that could go wrong!
I'd also like to repair the cracked "back bit" (technical term ) which I suppose I would use some sort of filler on and then paint it all black.
If any of the above sounds misguided, stupid or just plain wrong I would love to be corrected! And any general tips, hints, etc would be gratefully received!
