fireplace ideas

A little cheeky this one.
Im a bit of a loss to make my fireplace look better with the additonal of a wood burning stove ( that ive already decided ) I cant make my mind up about the floor, whether to stand the woodburner directly on the tiled floor in the firplace and add a wooden or similar surround, or add flagstones or bricks to base to riase it slightly.
Im looking for ideas and the best one that I like ill give a free pair of warm fluffy character/animal slippers from my slipper website ( sorry hope that not too commerical or blatent advertising moderators types, it's not intended to be advertising, just looking for some ideas)

I probably won't be getting any fluffy slippers for my opinion, but here it is.

Ditch the red. Paint the whole room in softer colours, with the window frame and beams picked out in a contrasting soft colour. Lime plaster the exposed brick. A combination of something like Dead Salmon, against Calamine and Elephant's Breath (F & B) would be stunning. Place the wood burner on flagstones in the fireplace.

Oh, just seen from the other thread that it looks like the woodburner is sitting or what appears to be nice old quarry tiles, so I'd leave them just as they are.

I`d keep it stone or tiles. Mine originally had some wood in the vicinity and no matter how careful
you are it will be scorched or worse.

I'm not sure that flagstones on top of the floor tiles in the room would look right. If it was mine, I would remove the mantelpiece though. There was a post here some while ago that explained how the mantelpiece was quite a recent addition to a fireplace, and the one in the picture clearly doesn't 'go'.
Slippers are excellent though. I received some glow-in-the-dark ones for Christmas, and they are fantastic when getting up in a cold night.

ah the bright feet slippers, with little lights on the front, yes, there one of ours

The mantle piece seems to be a support part of the register plate behind, so that may be a little more complicated to do - Id be interested to see the post about that though if you can find it?

Unless you're obsessively purist, I'd do what you like best with the mantlepiece. Who cares whether it's strictly true to the age of the fireplace? Do you like it and is it functional?

I must be honest and saythat im more concerned about making the brickwork look better, not clean and tidy, just not like its been firebombed ! weve also discovered a small arch at the bottom right of the firplace that has been bricked up with more modern bricks and seesm to have a gap/hole leading through to what is now a cupboard at the side, thsi is also in brick and looking at other posts, may well be a brick oven or salt dryer? Im planning on extracting the old ( new ) bricj and making good.
