Hi everyone...After the saga I had with the fireplace chimney a month ago....its finally uncovered and has a brilliant sandstone lintel..could any suuget methods of cleaning the lintel and bricks....as i do not want to do any damage..bearing in mind that the building is nearly 200 years young.

Oh good grief! If you can vanquish Balrog, the demon of the First Age, after the battle at the bridge of Khazad-dûm, I should have thought that getting a bit of muck off a stone lintel wouldn't be beyond your powers.

What is it that needs cleaning off? If it's just dirt, then a good scrub with soap and water might do the trick (if you can't be bothered, then get Bilbo to do it for you).

Whats wrong with being a tolkien addict...I`ve spent many an evening in the Green dragon have a pint and a pipe of long bottom leaf...contemplating wether or not Sauron is really all bad...anyway with your advise and a little hobit the fire place looks wonderful...
