I am thinking of starting a small bed and breakfast in the future and although it will have under six bedspaces I think I have to conform to new fire regulations. This means that all doors that lead to the main fire escape route have to be fireproof/hold back a fire for 30 mins. I have nice period panelled doors in my house that are currently stripped pine the lower doors are 4.7cm thick and the bedroom ones are 3.5cm thick. does anyone know if I can coat these doors, treat or paint these aso that they conform to the new standards?

- they are interested in small Guest houses with character as that is a v big growth sector in B+ B industry
NB I grew up in a gorgeous turn of century Lake district Guest house and will never lose the strength in upper arms afforded by a youth spent pushing open fire doors

Clear intumescent varnishes are available with 30 & 60 minutes resistance. They aint cheap though.

I'm no expert but I suspect that there will be some form of licencing required by the local authority. If you need fire doors then you might also need much more as well - extinguishers (independently inspected annually of course), fire alarms and possibly even separate fire escapes might be necessary.starfish said:I am thinking of starting a small bed and breakfast in the future

Unless it has changed recently I believe you don't need licencing for up to 6 beds.
