To get a fire rating on an original panel door, the previous owner painted them with intumescent paint (allegedly), put intumescent strips around them and added closing springs.
A considerable threshold has been added at the base of each door, to cover the gap that results from sagging floors.
I have fitted a new door. It is a modern fire door, replacing a modern one. I put all the fire rating stuff for Building Control. In the beginning there was a triangular gap under the door. Quite big - about 3 cm at one side. You could see right into the room when coming up the stars.
So I added a threshold to cover the gap.
Now the door is sealed against smoke and fire, but now I have a trip a trip hazard.
I suppose I had got used to the others. But have tripped on this one a few times.
Has anyone had this sort of issue?
Thought I'd ask before going to Building Control, Conservation and Fire Officer.
