Hello everyone. I've uncovered a 1-1.5 inch gap/cavity running down between the join in two of my bedroom walls (one external, one internal). Is there any reason I shouldn't be filling this/would want to leave an air gap? I was thinking of packing in a lime putty mortar around some small tiles/stones, since I'd need to patch at least some material against the external wall to make good.
I uncovered it when digging out some kind of filler that was covering the join and had cracked terribly, taking some of the old plaster on the external wall with it. The external wall I think is mostly lime. The internal wall seems to be lath & plaster, but has had a gypsum skim at some point - hence the need for filler at the join I suppose.
The cavity itself had been partially filled with bits of paper & chunks of old plaster which i've dug out. I think the original plaster on both walls would just about have bridged the gap, but guessing the cavity would not have been filled originally.
External wall left
Internal right

Inside the gap:
- Blue = external wall, brick/lime
- Green = internal wall, edge looks/feels like timber. Laths on each side.
