Fewer CO's in area of high listed building density

The conservation department was already rushed off its feet, and this reduction in the number of CO's can only make things worse.

Still, looking on the bright side, the uPVC window trade should perk up.

Perhaps that's where the departing CO went?

More seriously though, the reporting may not be entirely fair to the council. If an employee leaves, it's not really fair to describe the employer as having reduced the workforce, not immediately anyway. And it's normal practice to consider whether a departing employee should be automatically replaced. So, hopefully, the CO shortfall will only be temporary and Babergh will start advertising the position very soon.

You're trying very hard to be generous, but as I understand it, a cost-cutting decision has been taken not to replace the departed person. And however you look at it, that's a reduction in the manpower of the department.

I didn't read that the position was definitely not to be filled; the SPS chap was quoted as saying they were still waiting for an answer from Babergh - hence my generosity. Cynically though, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the lack of an answer is because it won't be what people want to hear.

If that's so then I agree it's deplorable.

I also think it reflects very poorly on Babergh's management. If the position isn't needed then they were wasting public money employing someone to do an unnecessary job. If the position is needed then they are neglecting to fulfill their responsibilities. They can't have it both ways.
