Just popping down to Falmouth to see student son, but he will have his own agenda...any thoughts...sorry about short notice.

Godolphin House isn't open at this time of year, alas.
Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth garden

Walk anywhere along the coast. Mylor Bridge to Restronguet is a fav.

Good weekend, by the way, thanks for contibutions. Took in Mylor area...delightfully quiet. University expanding as we speak (taking Dartington on board)...splendid campus mind.
Extra trains on the "Maritime line" as a result of a new loop at Penryn...would be nice to see the Truro bound platform open but not to be it seems! :roll:
Did stumble across (in up-town Falmouth) some quite delightful Regency terraced houses with curved window oriels...quite superb, but in good nick so plainly appreciated but some.
Serious rainfall seems to take its toll on much of the stock though.

Worth a visit though...a decent oak-clad harbour development with Maritime museum, some good eats, the Seven Stars pub (not to mention the Star and Garter, with blues and jazz nights), loads of odd little collectable shops with... err collectables (trying to divest personally) and a generally nice atmosphere.

Tourist board...the usual fee please!! :idea:

I like to have a day or two away at places of interest...obviously with decent period buildings worth seeing...please contribute :idea:

A beautiful town with a lovely atmosphere - and of course the famous Abbey ruins, plus the cathedral with a lot of newly completed work. http://www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk/sebc/visit/

One of the most beautiful and characterful villages in the country - hence the tourists! But you should see it at least once. http://www.lavenham.co.uk/

Blame Dr Beeching. Mind you, the old railway line is a lovely walk along the outskirts of the village.

I second Penners' suggestions.
Bury St Edmunds still has a railway station with a decent service to Cambridge (and Ipswich, I think, but I've never gone in that direction). Not sure about buses to Lavenham, but I'd be surprised if there was no service at all.
