Here in Feltwell Towers, the previous owners fitted some matching antique brass 6-arm light fittings in the lounge and dining room, which we quite like. However - much to the amusement of Mrs F, who would much rather I focussed on more minor things like walls that need plastering - the light fittings are held up with pozi-head countersunk screws, which irritate me as they're very visible.
Brass slotted roundhead would be much better, problem is the pozi screws holding them up at present are 110mm long! Does anyone know of a source of slotted head screws that are at least 4" in length? Brass (unlikely! too weak I guess) or black jappaned roundhead would be great, but frankly I'd take whatever there is. Google has failed me in my quest
First world problems eh?
The light fittings are on original ceiling roses, so chances are many fittings have been there over the years and the area above the middle of the rose has been torn apart by umpteen previous fittings. The fix is probably to take the fittings down, clean out the centre of the rose, screw & glue a hardwood block in place to the joist that is (hopefully!) above then fix the fitting back to that with shorter screws - but that requires more effort!
