This summer we will be starting the restoration of our Shropshire farmhouse. The original parts now well concealed within the fabric of the building, seem to date from the 16th century. The restoration started late last year with the removal of several layers of cement render which had been smothering the building for about the past 50 years or more. The walls (external and internal) have become noticeably drier since the render removal programme started, despite the poor state of some of the pointing and the worst of the winter weather. Through the summer the plan is to clean and restore the brickwork and lime pointing. A large stone (rubble?) wall remains rendered and will be tackled bit by bit during the restoration. Please take a look at the progress since October 2012 and follow the progress through 2013 on my blog. I'll be delighted to get any advice or comments you may have.
