Good morning all,
We are in the process of re-rendering our old victorian house. We live in Northern Ireland and the house is one hundred metres from the sea. Plenty of rainfall and in a high wind area. It has three stone and rubble walls and a brick front. Reason we are re-rendering is because one wall was stripped and re rendered with cement in the 70s which led to damp issues inside. The three other walls, a lot of the plaster has become bossed. We have had the walls stripped and are in the process of preparing the walls to be re-rendered. This preparation involves raking out the existing lime mortar where it has become too crumbly and re-pointing where necessary. The original render seemed to be a three coat lime render and a thin cement (victorian) top coat. We obviously want to replicate the existing mix as much as possible however also keeping costs in mind. Considering the wet, windy, marine environment, what lime render should we use? We want strength, flexibility and breathability, so a good quality NHL 2 (St Astier, Roundtower) was our first thought.
Many thanks in advance
