Had blown cement 1970's render removed from our circa 1830's brick house a couple of years ago, left the brickwork to dry out as it was sodden underneath. Lots of the faces of the bricks were damaged and the window openings have been changed so many times that we decided to have it re-rendered, it was too porous and rain was coming through in places. The plasterer used a lime mix (have asked him to advise the exact proportions of what he used as I can't remember) and did some simple pargetting (just rectangles) but now need to decide on appropriate paint. We've done three sides - the back of the house is still cement render and weathershield paint (running short of funds and the back is not in bad condition.) Asked at our local builders merchant/paint shop and they suggested mineral paint - any views on this or other suggestions? I know we shouldn't use standard paint but that's as far as I know.
One side of the house faces directly onto a churchyard (ground level above the internal floor level) and the other side and front face onto a road - the bottom of section of the render there is a different mix as there's a lot of splash from the tarmac road so that will be painted black.
