Hi folks.
We're planning an extension for our 2 bed cottage.
One of the main things to solve before going too far is the new roofline, and how it intersects with the existing cottage. We have a clay pantile roof.
The reason it's not simple is that the boundary for our site runs at an angle from one corner of the cottage, meaning we can't build in a straight line on one side of the site.
We'd like a vaulted ceiling in the new section, so we'd need a ridge beam, rather than ceiling joists. Something I've been considering in the designs...
I've attached a couple of screenshots of rough designs, the blue highlighted sections are the existing cottage, and you can see the angle required on the left.
Thoughts on simple roof designs that will be structural with a vaulted ceiling and work with the angle? (Preference at the moment is number 3. 2 has the added complexity of an angled roof over the wall, which would make gutters difficult...)
Thanks
