I am building an extension to my old cottage which will have exposed oak beams (rafters and ridge beam, new oak not reclaimed). Do I need to coat/treat the oak beams with anything or can I just leave them natural?
(I am planning to have the original beams in the old part of the house stripped back to the natural timber and leave these natural).
