Been out in the sun all day, cleaning the front of the house ready for painting But discovered a few minor repairs. The front of our house is a victorian brick extension. It's faced in a cement render....gasp! I know! As much as i'd like to remove this, it's not viable for us to do so. I'm left to make the most of what we've got. The render is largely in good condition. A few minor cracks to fill. The render stops short of the lower 2 courses of brick. Presumably to prevent moisture being drawn up the render by capillary action. The bottom edge of the render needs some attention, squaring off and back filling slightly. I'm thinking of using ordinary cement. The brickwork also needs repointing; is it worth me using lime mortar? or a cement/lime mix? vs just cement. I'm also wondering about the junction between wall and pavement. I want to prevent water from sitting in the junction. Presumably something like a cement fillet would suffice? My last question is about painting the brickwork? I'm not really sure why it's exposed, but it was previously painted as are the other house on the street with similar feature.
Sorry to talk about cement so much! Any suggestions to get a tidy finish would be appreciated. Many thanks
