The latest incarnation of the Google Android mobile operating system is called... KitKat!

Now you can dunk your smartphone in your cup of tea!

Poured a bit of coffee on my clever phone the other day. All seemed good apart from the flashing screen and the funny beeping noises. And that I couldn't turn it off.

Fortunately the reason for the coffee spill was a very early morning followed by a long drive. Phone perched on the demisters with aircon on dried the thing out by the time I got there.

Apparently you can dry a wet phone out by placing it in a bowl of flour--the mind boggles!--Or actually is it rice

I'd recommend rice, rather than flour (unless you like your mobile phone en croute!). Rice is less likely to gum up the works!

But if your phone does get wet don't turn it on, before you try to dry it out.

Seemingly the iPhone has a built in "moisture sensor" so that their engineers know if it has been dunked and therefore the warranty invalidated.

Nestlé found a simpler version of the technology for the original KitKat, although the degradation rate of their specialist immersion-sensitive coating depends very much on the temperature of the liquid substrate.
