We have an esse sovereign oil range. According to the last owners of the house it hasn't been used for several years and now that we have tried to use it we are getting no oil to the burner pan. We have oil in to the BM control unit but non coming out of the control unit. I have checked the safety lever and the filter. There is oil inside the BM control unit. The control knob on top of the unit does not seem to have any resistance when it is turned. I have blown through the pipes, both inlet and outlet and there doesn't seem to be any blockages.

I've seen two different sets of instructions on the position of the trip lever on the BM OCV. Some have it up for firing, some have it down, seems to depend on exact model. There should be a diagram on top of the unit with a little flame symbol but ours was all scratched and illegible. Worth trying it both ways, ours clicks and clunks both ways so neither sounds more 'on' or 'off' than the other. Wait a good 20 mins before trying to light.
Did you remove the OCV from the side of the cooker when blowing through? It has to be set up perfectly at the same level as the oil pan so not something to fiddle with.
Can't say whether there should be any resistance when turning the control knob as ours has an electric head. The pin that our electric head pushes against, although its spring loaded, is very light. I think the control knob on the manual version operates against the same internal mechanism so quite possible you won't feel anything.
Also, do you have a good flow of oil into the BM? Our fire valve tripped not long before Xmas cutting off the flow of oil. There was a little oil left in the control valve but since no new oil coming in to replace it the burner obviously went out. They sometimes do that said the engineer.
Tbh, I'd get an engineer in and have it checked out if its not been used for while.

As far as I know Esse really do not seem to have specialist Engineers, once the cooker has left their showroom it's up to you to find a Hetas registered Engineer. have you contacted a shop that sells all kinds of Range Cookers including Esse? Failing that, due to the takeover of of Aga, there are now several Aga Engineers setting up their own repair, servicing and installation services . Try JVH Traditional Cooker Services, for a start--google it, or, contact a company selling reconditioned range cookers, such as Classy Cookers and see if they can recommend somebody. Another source is Jacksons of Preston---but be quick before they close at the end of the month. These suggestions and more can be found on the I love my Aga on Facebook. It may well be the chimney which is causing the problem, but in any event you must chack it out and make sur that the person is HETAs registered for oil installations. Good luck
ps always make sure that the oil is the best you can afford--dirty oil can clog up the works when it the supply gets low

Its OFTEC for oil appliances. There is an engineer search page on their website. We were able to find someone on there after our usual guy let us down and all other web searches had failed. I think vaporising oil engineers are a dying breed and its likely to become increasingly difficult to get people. Our backup guy can't be far off retirement age.
