Jane Rackham said:Restoration Village
9:00pm - 10:00pm BBC2 1/9
Forget Love Island and Big Brother. This is a much better way to use your vote. Restoration has been a huge hit since 2003, raising millions to restore our architectural treasures, inspiring campaigns to save other examples of our heritage and encouraging us to appreciate our old buildings. It returns tonight, and for the next seven weeks, focuses on 21 neglected rural buildings around the UK that have each played a central role in their village. Ruin detectives Ptolemy Dean and Marianne Suhr bicker entertainingly as they pick over architectural details, and the ever-watchable Griff Rhys Jones displays more boyish enthusiasm than is probably decent in a man of his age.
It'll be hard to know which to vote for, because the buildings featured tonight are so different from each other: Tollesbury Granary in Essex looks like an enormous shed tottering on stilts at the water's edge, but has been at the hub of local maritime society for 150 years; Massey's Folly in Hampshire is a miniature St Pancras Station plonked in the middle of a rural setting and is, according to Dean, "monstrous but splendid"; while he's almost speechless with delight at the Arts and Crafts styling of the Watts Gallery in Surrey - until he sees the state of its roof.
