Finally finished the ensuite at the weekend (the first floor is now complete at last). Also managed to get all my woodwork painted in the dining room! Have just heard that my wallpaper (as selected with assistance from PPUK) is now in stock and will be collecting this week. Pics of the bathroom follow:-

Finally decided to use grate polish on the fireplace and pleased with the end result.

I built the counter-top from wedi-board (first time i've used it) and was very impressed. Very easy to work with and completely waterproof.

Wedi board is a tile-backer board. I'll quote from their website...

The most important feature of wedi Tilebacker Board is its performance in wet conditions. Use it for showers or even for water features with total confidence - even when completely immersed for a month, Tilebacker takes up only half a per cent of water.

wedi Tilebacker board is also a highly efficient thermal insulator and vapour barrier.

wedi Tilebacker Board is also a joy to use! - Tilebacker is lightweight, easy to cut and dimensionally stable. It is supplied in a variety of thicknesses

I used it underneath the floor tiles and to build the counter top. The timber floor was very uneven and I didn't want to remove any of the original fabric of the floor, I also wanted to waterproof underneath the tiles in case of leaks and I wanted to provide some thermal insulation for the underfloor heating. So wedi board was laid and then tiled on. Where we had a lath wall, we secured wedi to the joists to avoid hanging the weight of the tiles on the plaster. This way, the work can be 'undone' by others and revert to a timber floor and plaster walls if they wish to.

I cut the counter top from thick wedi board and then tiled on to this. I don't have to worry about the weight of the board or any surface splashes etc.

I've got no connection to wedi and this was the first time i'd used it (always preferring marine ply before), but I was impressed

We're lucky in that we are not overlooked in the garden.....but you are right that any playing football might get a shock at the moment! We have ordered a brown suede effect blind which will be installed to preserve modesty :wink:

Jocelyn - Completely agree on the Jo Malone, will get one on my next trip overseas (the JM store at Heathrow is a particular weakness of mine)

Coincidentally, I'm currently working on a bathroom and am about to build a shower enclosure. I was planning to use 18mm marine ply as the substrate for the tiles but was interested to read about the 'wedi tilebacker' you used. Where did you get it from and was it expensive?

Fantastic bathroom - very jealous. I'll be round in a bit with my Wash-n-Go ! :wink:

We have the main bathroom to do soon(ish!) I never know whether to blend modern and traditional features like you have, or whether to go entirely "traditional". My worry is that "modern" could look dated in another 20 or 30 years - whereas, "traditional" is relatively timeless and in keeping with the rest of the property.

And then I see bathrooms like yours and just want it....!

Is the control panel for under-floor heating?
