Just re-reading this. Lovely book with evocative pictures.

Written 23 years ago when it was already difficult fo find cottages with unspoilt interiors. Even harder now, alas.
Highly recomended.

Copies available for a penny on that site that recently caused some bother here and isn't called Nile, Zambesi or Thames. Though there seem to be at least three different editions (with, at least, different covers even if the contents remain the same)

I think this book portrays the romantic side of cottage dwelling, the truth about cottage living over the last four or five hundred years was a very different and sometimes disturbing reality. There are better books out there, this one went to my mum who loves it.

I tried to buy one of the 1p + postage offers but had my order cancelled and refunded because the book "didn't meet their high standards." In fairness, I wanted a good copy, not a dog-eared ropey one and at a penny I thought it may have been too good to be true. Seems it was... Where was the one at £225? :lol:

Well, the book arrived. It is indeed what it says in the blurb.

Primarily designed for the coffee table, I'd say. I'm glad I didn't pay hundreds of pounds for it, but it was worth the £3.38 I paid for it (including delivery).

It didn't give me any ideas about how to furnish my hovel, though.
