Electrical - Small Flex Outlet Connector?

Does anyone know if it's possible to obtain a flex outlet connector which is smaller than the standard 86mm x 86mm?

I need to connect a small, delicate antique wall lamp and the standard-sized flex outlet plate is rather inappopriate.

Any help appreciated.

I can't vouch for today's regulations, but wall lights that I've seen have invariably had a small 5A chocolate block connecter under their wall mounting plate. This is used to connect the flex within the lamp directly to the switched cable protruding from the wall.

Where the cables are routed under plaster, I use small metal boxes to house the connecters.

Not a good pic - the front of the box is open.

The box will provide additional protection for the cable connection. You should be able to locate the lamp fixing safely in the wall either side of the box.

I had trouble with my house, as there were huge voids just where I wanted the lamp fixings to go. So I made a wooden mounting board for the lamps, with a hole in the center for the cables to pass through.

I also used boards on a much bigger scale to mount my curtain pole.

The lintel ended just where I needed a fixing at one end (mortar joint), and at the other it was a really deep section of plaster >= 2 inches.

I used my trusty Stanley plane to put a nice bevel around the board - makes a neater finish.

Only took me 10 years to acquire the necessary tools and skills to get the curtain pole to actually stay up! I now consider myself a master craftsman. Just need some curtains now :lol:
