Electric garage doors

We are looking to replace our garage door as they are falling to pieces and haven't been opened in years. They need to be vertical wooden strips (according to the conservation officer) and should either be concertina or slide sideways somehow. Has anyone had any experience of this? We are in Devon and could do with some top tips / recommendations.

We have an up and over style electric 'garage' door on one of our barns that was installed by a previous owner, its an absolute meccano set of metal work! Not sure if you can quite make it out in these pictures, they were the only ones I had to hand.




My parents have also got a modern up and over rigid electric door on the garage we built there which came from Garador in Yeovil, who are probably the biggest manufacturer of garage doors in the UK, might be worth getting in touch with them and discussing sliding options.

I've no experience of horizontal sliding doors, but vertical panels seems an odd request. Horizontal panels would allow you to look at roll up options, but I guess there might be a horizontal roll up system?? A rigid horizontal sliding door would need a lot of width to the garage.

We bought a garage in Bath that has this type of door, although it isn't powered ( no supply to the premises ). The old door had to be replaced like for like very much as you describe and since we were buying it from someone with his own building firm we agreed that he would do it before completion. It is made in sections and runs around a "track" there is also the option of opening the last section independently as a person sized door.
