piper said:Apologies for slight hijacking of thread, but that cellar looks very much like ours, though bigger, and we haven't got the recesses in the walls (they are nice - are they meant for wine storage? most wine bins take up far more of the available space). In the 'before' picture it looks as though the area around the extractor fan has been repaired/filled in with newer brick. Is that because there was originally a coal chute there? If so, it's like our cellar, and I was considering blocking the coal chute because it tends to destroy the even temperature that cellars are supposed to maintain - i.e. lots of freezing air comes down it in the winter - but was concerned that this would also make the cellar unventilated.
Choice of lighting depends on whether you are just going to use it for storage or intend to do anything down there - e.g. put in a workbench or something.
