For somebody, though, that's a great bargain. I never understand the fashion for pulling out top quality kitchens - if preferred, the look could be altered completely with a new colour and new handles.

I suppose the room isn't going to be a kitchen anymore.

Maybe you're right Joce, but you'd be amazed at what people 'throw out' because it's not to their taste.
As you say, a top quality kitchen like that could easily be adapted to suit the right house, but it's looking for a nice large scale Victorian / Georgian property.

In most cases (not this one), even a quite expensive kitchen will have standard cabinets and the bulk of the cost is in the labour not the units so reuse isn't that much of a saving. I can understand why you might decide to remove a good kitchen - at least this one is being sold on not skipped.

We moved our kitchen from one room to another - as a result we could probably have reused some of the cabinets in the new room but that would have complicated the schedule considerably and would have left us without a functional kitchen for some time. Especially when a problem with the granite meant it was delivered then taken away again to be recut returning 2 weeks later.

As it worked out we were able to fully fit the new kitchen and in one day move the appliances and contents.
The old kitchen was then carefully removed taken in a van and fitted in my partner's sisters house.

The island unit we inherited went on eBay and was collected from Norfolk by a chap from Warrington who seemed very pleased with his £150 purchase. It probably cost another £100 in diesel but it was a works van I don't know how you could square the 10-12 hours of travel time though
He told me he'd driven to Bristol to pick up a push chair the previous weekend - there are some odd folks on eBay.

In our current-not-so-old house, we replaced the kitchen 12 years ago and the old one went to my best friend, who was just kitting out her first ever house. By the time she and her dad had finished with it, it was unrecognisable (in a good way!). We were told by one of the kitchen designers visiting before it was removed, that it had already been moved once, so that kitchen had three lives.

Sadly, there was nothing period or quality about the kitchen we have had removed from our new-old house, and my best friend didn't need another free one, so this one went to the tip after one, admittedly fairly long, life...

A german friend of mine told me that it was quite normal to take your kitchen with you when you moved house.
Perhaps that explains why they are treated as luxury brands in the UK - built to be removed and reused more than once so a bit more durable?
