Easipanels

We have discovered that our, still very damp , bathroom has just breeze blocks behind the easipanels... I had to look twice to make sure that is what I saw--- presumably I now plaster over before doing anything else-- if so what sort should I use? ( the top half of the walls are plastered so I have stopped painting until that easipanel is off=== it's glued on :roll: ).


Give me a listed property any day, at least I know what to expect, but some of what I am uncovering here makes me shudder. Artisan the house maybe, but it has been well and truly insulted over the past 9 years. Found 2 dpc floors in the dining room, so expect some cries for help when I get round to tackling that one--.

The kitchen is going to be pulled out next week. We already know that there is a right mess behind the units and our water comes through an old lead supply!

Our downstairs loo has "lovely" fake MDF panelling stuck onto grotty 1970's tiles with "No more nails" or similar!

If it's breeze block then there's no breatheability anyway, so you can put what you want on it I suppose. Is this a modern extension?

We've a lead water supply as well, but I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that if you're in a hard water area then they are no great concern as by now they will have a good coating of limescale on the inside. We're in a very hard water area, so much so I'm in the middle of fitting a water softener.

Anyone have any proper knowledge about hazards or otherwise of a lead feed pipe into the house?

Not an extension, but a result of 2 cottages being knocked into one. The bathroom seems to be where the second staircase was!

I might as well resort to some water resistant MDF panels.
Not particul.arly bothered about the lead supply.

You say that the bathroom is damp, Jocelyn. Do you think this is condensation, or something else?

If it is condensation, then rather than just plastering the wall it might be worth considering doing a dry-lining job with some insulation behind it (and an air-gap of course). That might make a worthwhile improvement to the problem.

Thanks Penners, yes, I am considering dry- lining plus insulation. Think that cropped up in another thread a while ago. For the moment I have scraped some white paint over to cover that quite disgusting yellow, and am about to prise a bit of the easipanel off another section of the wall.
Everything I do here seems to involve removing glue---- the kitchen wall tiles, the shower tiles, the floor tiles, the window sills -- all glued on :roll:
Him indoors is quite high on glue remover----- :lol:

Well, I don't know of any other way of fixing tiles. :wink:

A shame for J, though, that one day he won't need the glue remover any more!

I mean GLUE not tile adhesive---- never seen the like before!!!!
