Earthborn claypaint

I'm struggling with getting a Earthborn claypoint that at least vaguely matches the colour on the tin. I now have several test pots and it's come down to Mittens. It's a lovely paint (green tinge) but in our low ceiling timber framed house I'm concerned it's a little too dark. We have tried Lemony (too lemony!) and Straw (also too dark). Has anyone else used Mittens and how does it work in a mixture of good and poor light?

One final option is Vanilla but I'm loathed to spend more money on another test pot. Would appreciate help from anyone experienced with these clay paints.

we used "white" and "just white" , think they were both lovely

damn confusing names though - telling the builder to use white. he says "just white then". no - "white" , not "just white". repeat

Thanks Steve. If Vanilla turns out too dark then I might just do just white :?

Just looked at "mittens"

"just white" might be what you are looking for (which is a subtly yellowy tinged white). will see if I can find a picture of a room with it.

--edit-- this is the only pic I have at work, the colours do not show up well but the walls are just white, the ceiling is white. the frames are holkams linseed somethignelse white

Have used vanilla and white. Both have been great. Vanilla is pretty yellowy though - custard-like.

Using mittens to paint makes it very hard to hold the brush so I couldn't recommend that

I used their Ballet Shoe on a bagged lime-plastered wall. In the course of some cupboard-building, I decided to paint the woodwork to match, had it scanned at SG Bailey and got eggshell which looked OK, then had some vinyl silk made up (for another wall in the same room, brick, already emulsioned many times) and applied that to one brick panel, and tbh in any light I can't distinguish it from the bog-standard white emulsion applied by PO to an adjacent panel.

Perhaps in a more modern house with larger windows might be a different matter but, afaic, all this nearly-white malarkey very overdone.

Well, despite all the helpful advice, we had a slight change of plan. The Earthborn clay paint range was too limited so we ended up with Rolling Fog Mid in Absolute Matt Emulsion from the Little Greene paint company. What a superb paint in terms of colour, finish and covering power. It also does a very good job of levelling itself and getting rid of brush marks. It was actually the colour on the walls of the shop in Ipswich quay where we got it from. We walked in not really having a clue what we wanted but what was really usefull was that it came in their Colour Scale range which means they can produce dark, mid and pale from the same base paint. They mix it while you wait. Well worth a look.

Joce - your request for piccies suggests that you think we've actually used the paint :roll: . Hopefully by Sunday night we might have something to show for our efforts. You're right - it is that nice soft mushroomy colour.

Lime washing some of the new lime plastered internal plinths as well at the weekend. The main plinth work I'm having to leave open for now as it's still damp, partly from the rebuilding and partly from the original damp source. It's a hell of a lot drier than it was when the cement first came off but it's still drawing too much moisture from the ground. Outside ground levels and drainage are on the to do list.

We used Piglet in the girls' room as I was told it was quite pink. Girls didn't appreciate the subtlety (more hint of pink,white) so have ordered match pots in Cupcake,Tutu and Lucy's Scarf. Cupcake is like a very subtle peachy shade, Tutu is a nice paleish,soft pink and Lucy's Scarf is quite a strong mid pink a bit like F&Bs Ointment Pink - quite period ,but could rob the light from a room that doesn't have much.Good news is all nice colours.Girls' choice was Tutu predictably.

Marbles looks a nice White colour within their range. I'm also considering Clay paint over limewash. Any experience of them both?
