There was a lot of traffic on this forum, a few years ago, when Dumfries House was threatened with being sold and its collections auctioned off. As I remember it, Prince Charles got involved with a charitable consortium that bought and saved it.

It's many years since I've been to Syon Park. The website makes no mention of a butterfly house - has it disappeared? I remember taking the children there about 25 years ago - they were absolutely enchanted by tropical butterflies as big as your hands.

The butterfly house was replaced by a hotel three years ago - the butterflies have gone to Long Sutton in Lincolnshire.
