Dubbing out an external wall

I'm currently removing the cement render from an external stone wall prior to rerendering in lime. I've got some quite deep holes to dub out and would be grateful for advice as to the best way to fill them. On previous walls I've used some largish stones (1.5cm +) mixed in with a 2:1 hydraulic lime mix. I was wondering whether I could recycle the old cement and mix this in or whether the "6mm down" aggregate I'm going to use for the roughcasting could also be used.

To be honest you can use just about anything that fits to dub out - bits of broken tile, cement, slivers of slate - slate and tile is popular in Scotland, where the preference is for a very smooth wall before harling.
The advantage of using large lumps of stuff is that it's free and you don't have to wait for it to set.
