draughtproofing the bottom of a door.

My house has subsided quite a bit and when the floor was leveled I had to cut a considerable amount off the bottom of my back door to get it to clear the floor. However now the lower bolt is closer to the bottom of the door and I can't put a brush strip under the bolt. What do people think of putting a brush seal on the outside of the door, or perhaps making a raised threshold that the bottom of the door can butt up against.

I'd make a threshold and incorporate a brush seal personally.

Alternatively, if you didn't want to do that, could you machine a brush pile carrier into the bottom of the door? Reddiseals sell them.

My front door sits very close to the floor like that. Drives me mad - any little bit of grit on the floor and it catches it. You can't have a door mat either. Fitting a threshold so I machine a bit off the bottom of the door is on the very long list of jobs to do to this place..........

I'd do it properly and fit a threshold, then you can at least have a doormat to stop muck coming in from your garden.

No, it sticks to the edge of the threshold and the door closes against it to provide a seal. The tape has excellent conformity to uneven gaps.

Presumably the door has a water bar on the outside? Would then be better to stick the tape to the door rather than the threshold, so the tape won't get walked on.

Whatever way you do it, I think it's essential that you do. I fitted one on the internal door in the small utility room, and was amazed at how much warmer it made the next room inside - wished I'd done it a year before!

It will need a water bar on, or the rain will trap between the door and the threshold.

It may not work depending on your door and door step/threshold, but I think the default approach is to have a water bar set into the threshold that the door closes against. See Figure 6.5 http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...108#v=onepage&q=water bar rebate door&f=false.

This is what I have for both my back and front door.
