dpm's to solid walls

I am extending my Victorian cottage and am puzzled over what to do with my damp proof membrane where it abuts my existing solid 9" wall. Do I run it up the wall and glue it somehow? Do I rake out a layer of mortar and stuff it in? Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Normally a damp-proof membrane under an interior concrete floor is run up the wall and tucked under the damp-proof course in the wall, to give continuity of protection against damp.

Now prepare yourself for a number of posts on the relative merits of dpm's and dpc's in old houses!

You should seal it against the existing wall with a silicone sealant. Whether it serves any purpose in preventing damp I'm not going to get into but you will need to do that to comply with regulations on Radon gas.

PS it might not actually do any good but it will keep the building inspector happy.

Do we dare mention the possibility that damp may then be unable to escape and be driven up into the solid wall? It has been known!
