Door codes on listed buildings

Hello,
Does anyone know if I would need listed building consent to fix key pads (you know the sort where you punch in a four-digit code to open the door) to external doors on a Grade II* listed building for security reasons? Thanks, V

I doubt such things are specifically allowed/disallowed in the 'rule book' (if such a thing even exists) so the only source of a definitive answer will be the responsible CO.

Personally, I don't think such things are particularly 'in keeping' though I suppose they at least have the virtue of being non-destructive and completely reversible, so I could think of far worse things.

You mention 'security' but are such things any more secure than a good modern lock?

Depends on the lock, but some require a hole through the door for a spindle, as well as screws to attach them.

They can be very useful - I've got one on the gate to get round the back of our house - makes it easy for the window cleaner to get access when we're at work, and for the postman to leave parcels out of the way, as well as meaning I don't have to find keys every time I want get round there.

I was assuming the door already had a lock of some sort and that the digital code thingy effectively just replaced the existing door handle or that the spindle would use the existing keyhole. OK, I'll grant you the screw holes. :wink:
