Does anybody know anything about this terrace in London?

There is a very attractive terrace round the corner from me, on Guilford Street, and I wondered if anybody knew what was happening with it?

It was built by James Burton (father of Decimus) for the Coram Foundation and features full height columns/pilasters. It used to look down the length of Queens Square, but the view is now blocked.

I think it’s owned by the University College London Hospital and I do wonder what their plan is as they are allowing them to become derelict. I hope that that is completely unfounded but institutional owners do have a certain reputation. There are other terraces on either side which are in there ownership too, I think, as well as the original mews coach houses.

I may write to the Uni, but I thought it would help if anybody knows any background info?

Yes, looks like lots of things were decided 5 years ago but the buildings are sitting empty...

I had a look on the council's planning site but there is nothing more recent. Though I have met the planning officer quoted, so I might give him a call.

I don't think it's one of those blighted by Crossrail, but you never know!

Cross rail goes further down - more along under Holborn (ie where the Central Line runs. Anybody understand that...).

This seems about the only good idea that the powers that be have had on transport in London, what a pain getting E to W to Heathrow (why not use that rather than build another at Stansted with just more cheap flights to E Europe and Malaga)

Adam at SAVE did attend the Commons Select Committee to try to save some of the historic buildings; those promoting Crossrail agreed that a slight re-route was possible in many cases, but it would cost more. So no go.

It just doesnt go that way as far as I know - it runs south of Theobalds Road and north of Holborn.
